Chapter 2 - Part 1

Throughout the Bible, the Lord speaks of a remnant that is saved. This remnant is wholly separated unto the Lord and abides in His grace, His direction and His power. This is an obedient remnant of people united in heart to His Word, having His desires above their own fleshly desires. This remnant comes to Zion with "everlasting joy" in their hearts. Sadly enough, the Lord Jesus speaks to the FEW that are on the straight and narrow path in the book of Matthew 7:1314: "Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and FEW there be that find it."

From the beginning, there were few who would put the Lord God above all else. A family of eight was saved, and God destroyed the inhabitants of planet earth by a flood. Jesus speaks of this in Luke 17:2627:, "And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all."

We also take note of Jesus telling us that similar rebellion would be upon planet earth in the end as it was in the days of Sodom and Gomorrah. (Gen. 19:16,24) We see the signs of Sodom as never before in America and throughout the world today. "Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all." (Luke 17:2829)

The prophets ISAIAH, JEREMIAH, JOEL, AMOS, MICAH, ZEPHANIAH, HAGGAI, and ZECHARIAH all speak of the REMNANT which is to be saved.

ISAIAH points out a highway for God's holy remnant. The Lord has shown me the road is very steep and narrow, and only a remnant shall travel the highway of surrender. "And there shall be an highway for the REMNANT of his people, which shall be left, from Assyria, like as it was to Israel in the day that he came up out of the land of Egypt." (Isaiah 11:16) Few of the body will escape the fierce and righteous judgement of God. "For out of Jerusalem shall go forth a REMNANT, and they that escaped out of Mount Zion..." (Isaiah 37:32)

JEREMIAH's call to point out to his nation their sinful state causes him to bewail his own isolation as a result of obedience to God. Yet he is reminded of God's word of hope. "The Lord said, Verily it shall be

well with thy REMNANT." (Jer. 15:11) "And I will gather the REMNANT of my flock out of all countries whither I have driven them." (Jer.23:3)

EZEKIEL declares the fierce judgement of God to Israel for their sin of idolatry. In the midst of flaming words from the mouth of God comes forth a hope for the few. "Yet will I leave a REMNANT, that ye may have some that shall escape the sword among the nations when ye shall be scattered through the countries." (Ezek. 6:8) "Yet behold, therein shall be left a REMNANT that shall be brought forth." (Ezek.15:22)

JOEL, God's prophet, gives forth the Word on the final day, "the great and terrible day of the Lord" wherein the "sun shall be turned into darkness and the moon into blood." But here is the ray of hope.. "And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be delivered: for in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the Lord hath said, and in the REMNANT whom the Lord shall call." (Joel 2:32)

AMOS proclaims a lamented cry to Israel "The Virgin of Israel is fallen". The final plea goes forth "Seek the Lord, and ye shall live" (Amos 5:6). Yet that blessed hope is again given. "Hate the evil, and love the good, and establish judgement in the gate: it may be that the Lord God of hosts will be gracious unto the REMNANT of Joseph." (Amos 5:15)

MICAH also gives us the prophetic light on the mountain of the Lord. "..He shall judge among many people and rebuke strong nations afar off; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares...And I will make her that halted a REMNANT, and her that was cast far off a strong nation: and the Lord shall reign over them in Mount Zion from henceforth even for ever. (Micah 4:7).

The cry goes forth again through ZEPHANIAH to the meek of the earth, "to seek the Lord, seek righteousness.." The sins of the world are apparent. Judgement is in our land now, as in the days of Zephaniah. However, God promises, "Therefore as I live, saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, Surely Moab shall be as Sodom and the children of Ammon as Gomorrah, even the breeding of nettles, and saltpits, and a perpetual desolation, the residue of My people shall spoil them, and the REMNANT of My people shall possess them." (Zeph.2:9) "I will also leave in the midst of thee an afflicted and poor people, and they shall trust in the name of the Lord. The REMNANT of Israel shall not do iniquity, nor speak lies; neither shall a deceitful tongue be found in their mouth; for they shall feed and lie down, and none shall make them afraid." (Zeph.3:1213)

HAGGAI warns about the slumbering church dwelling in "cieled houses, while the house (of God) lies waste." (Haggai 1:4) Yet only a few obey the voice of God,... "Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel

and Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, with all the REMNANT of the people, obeyed the voice of the Lord their God." (Haggai 1:12)

ZECHARIAH brings forth the jealous love of God for His chosen, with the prophetic word that some will get saved, yet a majority will perish. "Thus saith the Lord of hosts; If it be marvelous in the eyes of the REMNANT of this people in these days, should it also be marvelous in mine eyes? saith the Lord of Hosts. Thus saith the Lord of hosts; Behold, I will save My people from the east country and from the west country.." (Zech.8:68)

PAUL the Apostle quotes Isaiah in Romans 9:2728, to elaborate on this theme of the seriousness of God's chosen to come through. "Esaias also crieth concerning Israel, Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, a REMNANT shall be saved: For He will finish the work, and cut it short in righteousness: because a short work will the Lord make upon the earth."

God has shown us from the beginning, He will not tolerate man choosing his own way above God's holy standard, His Word. We have the privilege of the written Word for our direction. But the cry of the Holy Spirit of God is coming forth today, in these last moments of life on planet earth, before the curtain closes on Hisstory. The same cry of the prophets of

old, "Seek ye the Lord and ye shall live.." Let us remember the serious word of only a REMNANT surviving. God help us to seek now!

"Hear ye the words of this covenant, and speak unto the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem; And say thou onto them, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel: Cursed be the man that obeyeth not the words of this covenant, which I commanded your fathers in the day that I brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, from the iron furnace, saying, Obey My voice, and do them, according to all which I command you, so shall ye be My people and I will be your God: That I may perform the oath which I have sworn unto your fathers, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey, as it is this day. Then answered I, and said, So be it, O Lord." (Jer.11:25)

Can we answer, "So be it, O Lord?" God is showing me, we are coming into the final battleground. The armory waits every day for God's people to put on the full armor and take the land. Much will be required in the final countdown before we launch into the heavenlies. Many will go through the fires of testings; and many will FALL AWAY in the fires due to selfish desires and proud hearts.
